                        A Friend in Need

Multiple Sclerosis is not only debilitating and unpredictable, it can be a tremendously lonely experience. Add to this, the rigors of living in one of the coldest, unique places on the planet, and  it is almost incomprehensible that someone has survived the disease for over 30 years in Alaska.
That's not all, though. Her friend not only opens the doors for her, brings food to her, helps her into elevators, and turns on the lights, he's not even human.

The article highlights Canines for Companions and received praise for its accurate and inspiring portrayal of interaction, understanding and unconditional love. These are incredible dogs that learn hundreds of helpful tricks and commands to help their disabled owners.  Thea, the MS victim and canine owner, is still fighting her disease daily in Alaska, after a remarkable 20 years. The photographer-author has kept up with her struggles since first meeting her in 1989.
