We all seem to be born with a curiosity and sense of wonder about all that we can see, and not see. We all wonder where we came from and where we are going. Religious, political and spiritual leaders around the world all teach ways of loving and connecting to the higher forces around us. Taken together, they all seem to be spokes of a wheel, pointing to the same goals and ways of interacting.
Whether Catholic, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu or Agnostic, we all try to find comfort with a set of guidelines to enjoy life with, while acknowledging the larger forces when the need arises. And we learn to recognize this need in others, giving them the space and sensitivity they need to discover what resonates in their lives.
This Compassion Project avoids specific religious explanations or convictions because the search for meaning runs closer to the heart, beneath ideas of where the earth came from, where it is going, or why. The focus is on personal feelings rather than intellectual explanations. Most important to us are the relationships and journeys that humans and animals make in the world -- ways of connecting with our own ongoing, ultimately solo confrontation with the heart of our being.
