Endangered Species was a magazine headquartered in Australia. It had stunning articles on animals, conservation and rehabilitation efforts around the world, until it folded in 2001.
This story was the result of a 2 week stay at a rehab zoo in Banos, Ecuador. Every animal in this open air faciilty had an amazing story, though the highlight of my visit was an unlikely pair -- the eagle and monkey pictured below. Though enemies in the wild, they became best friends here. The monkey would actually lie down and fall asleep under the eagle's gentle talons, leading me to conclude that hatred and bigotry cannot possibly be genetic.
