A single woman and her amazing dog in Alaska. Tied to a wheelchair for over 15 years from MS, her dog lifted her spirits every day. There is no greater joy, with or without legs.
I heard about them on an NBC 20/20 episode from my home 3 miles away from hers. I sent off a proposal to only one magazine, then waited for a reply. Six months later, they wanted the story shot within the month. It was December, and I was leaving the country in two weeks. I did the shots and submitted the story from the road. Nothing inspires me more than people and animals like these, though the letter from Canine Companions for Independence telling how inspiring the story was for them and their clients added a nice postscript.
